Dad-Rock - a genre of rock music popular among boomer-aged dads. Dad-Rock derives its power from the holy trinity of dad-rock: Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page.
The Rolling Stones - Jumping Jack Flash - Through The Past Darkly (Big Hits, Vol. 2)
“…I was born in a cross-fire hurricane
And I howled at my ma in the driving rain,
But it’s all right now, in fact, it’s a gas!
But it’s all right. I’m Jumpin’ Jack Flash,
It’s a Gas! Gas! Gas!…”
The Eagles - Already Gone - On The Border
“…And I’m already gone, And I’m feelin’ strong, I will sing this vict’ry song, woo, hoo, hoo, woo, hoo, hoo …”
Derek & the Dominos - Little Wing - Layla and other Assorted Love Songs
A nice rendition of Hendrix’s Little Wing by Eric Clapton and Duane Allman. Hendrix died only 9 days after this song was recorded.
Jefferson Airplane - Milk Train - Long John Silver
Grace Slick singing some sexy lyrics…
Genesis - That’s All
This reminds me of my favourite Patrick Bateman quote: “I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.”
This isn’t Sussudio but it’s a bad ass tune.
Boston - Peace of Mind
Neil Young - Down By the River - Everybody knows this place is nowhere
One of the greatest laid back guitar jam’s of all time, this nine minute gem is worth every second.
Queen - Misfire - Sheer Heart Attack
“…Your gun is loaded And pointing my way // There’s only one bullet So don’t delay …”
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Breakdown - Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers
This simple and sweet lick is the work of heartbreak Mike Campbell
“… I’m not afraid of you running away Honey, I get the feeling you won’t …”
The Isley Brothers - Testify Parts 1 & 2 (with Jimi Hendrix) - (1964)
This is one of two tracks by The Isley Brothers to feature Jimi Hendrix (at that time still known as Jimmy Hendricks). Ronald Isley on the vocals. This isn’t the correct album cover but I thought Jimi would fit in nicely if I had the capabilities to photoshop him in.
Jimi has a few very good but short solos on the track especially about 2/3rds in.
“… Music is blowing my mind …”
It certainly is.
The Guess Who - Dancin’ Fool -The Greatest of the Guess Who
” …No more time for feelin’ shy and lonely, Now I’m a Dancin’ Fool…”
Bachman Turner Overdrive - Let it Ride - Bachman Turner Overdrive II
“… baby you want the forgivin’ type but that’s just not my style … “
Led Zeppelin - Heartbreaker & Livin’ Lovin’ Maid (She’s Just a Woman) - Led Zeppelin II
Heartbreaker and Livin’ Lovin Maid as they are heard on the album
The Doobie Brothers - Long Train Runnin’ - The Captain and Me
“… with out love, where would you be now…”
Deep Purple - Hush - Shades of Purple
“…She’s got loving like quicksand
Only took one touch of her hand
To blow my mind and I’m in so deep
That I can’t eat and I can’t sleep…”
